Crown Shy is the first solo project of Chef James Kent and Restaurateur Jeff Katz. Inspired by James’s upbringing in downtown New York and his experience leading the city’s most celebrated kitchens, Crown Shy is a neighborhood seasonal restaurant elevated by fine dining training and technique.
Located on the ground floor of Art Deco masterpiece 70 Pine Street, the dining room and bar occupy a series of rooms with floor to 16-foot-ceiling windows leading to an open kitchen.
The food at Crown Shy is rooted in European technique but draws inspiration from around the world, primarily the flavors from our childhoods, traveling, and the diverse cuisine in New York City.
Crown Shy has been awarded 1 Michelin star & 2 stars by the NYT and has been acknowledged as one of the most popular new restaurants in the city by multiple publications.

As a Server at Crown Shy you are responsible for providing guests with the highest possible standard in service and are responsible for the complete sales and service of food, beverages & experience. Servers must possess leadership skills, be personable with guests and be able to anticipate their needs- working with a warm, knowledgeable & noticeably appreciative demeanor. It is the responsibility of the Server to coordinate dining room activities to achieve the restaurant’s common goal of guest satisfaction. Crown Shy’s Server position is unique because it is the only service position on the floor, besides Sommelier & Bartender. Our Servers work as a team to facilitate all food running and table maintenance. For this reason, Servers at Crown Shy must posses a natural drive to do well and work together.
Crown Shy believes in a ‘whole house’ mentality and we expect all departments (Pastry, Savory, Dining Room, and Facilities) to support and motivate each other to achieve our goal of guest satisfaction. As a Server, you will interact with all of these departments regularly and should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with your co workers & managers. This is a full time position. Crown Shy is open 7 days a week. We are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
