Systems administrator for the Management information Systems (MIS), and the alternate systems administrator for the Services Information Management System (SIMS) operations. Directs, implements, controls, and analyzes the utilization of all small computers and the contents of their software. Installs, configures, and trouble-shoots network and application server hardware, operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators. Changes the components of existing equipment for efficient operation. Develops and maintains local procedures for networks, system operations, and product assembly and installation. Monitors operations of the network and ensures that components achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Function tests hardware and software to resolve technical problems and makes the appropriate on-site repair. Provides ongoing support, resolution of problems, and recovery of operating malfunctions involving various hardware components and software failures. Performs system backups to ensure expedient restoration of the database for the respective network equipment. Participation with users support personnel to train office personnel and functional end users in the use of the office automation computers, local and wide area networks, and other automated tools. Recommends and prepares operating policies and procedures for networks, system operations, and product assembly and installation. Maintains technical proficiency by attending expositions and meetings and through review of current communications and computer literature. Orders and maintains inventory of MIS supplies and other equipment. Provides technical advice and assistance to users who establish communications through the MIS, Time Manager, NCR Operations, Electronic Commerce Purchasing System (ESPS), and Military Troop Support. Responsible for the SIMSIMIS Blanket Purchases Agreements contract. Identifies the nature of the problem and seeks technical assistance from appropriate personnel.
