Job Description

Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral is seeking a Custodian Maintenance Worker to join our team! This hands-on role combines custodial duties, light maintenance, and grounds upkeep to keep our parish and school campus clean, safe, and welcoming. 

What You’ll Do:

• Perform routine cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables throughout the campus
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and fixtures
• Maintain floors by sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing
• Wash windows, walls, and light fixtures to keep spaces looking their best
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed
• Set up and break down rooms for parish and school events, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment
• Keep outdoor areas clean, including sweeping walkways and clearing trash from entryways
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to the maintenance supervisor
• Lock and unlock doors, gates, and entry points as needed
• Observe for unauthorized access or unusual activity and report concerns
• Ensure that doors, windows, and security systems are properly secured after use
• Assist with moving equipment, unloading deliveries, and other operational tasks
• Maintain storage rooms and work carts in a clean and safe condition
• Assists with light maintenance and grounds upkeep as needed
• Support additional maintenance or janitorial tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor

Job Requirements:

What We’re Looking For:

• Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation, and janitorial supplies
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong attention to detail in maintaining campus cleanliness and organization
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfort working in various weather conditions for occasional outdoor maintenance
• Positive and service-oriented attitude when working with clergy, staff, teachers, volunteers, and parishioners
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for parish and school events
• Adherence to Safe Environment Training and diocesan guidelines for working in a parish and school setting

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, available as either a day shift (with occasional nights or weekends) or an evening shift (with occasional days or weekends). The hourly wage ranges from $16–$18, depending on skills and experience. Full benefits are offered after the introductory period, including medical, dental, and paid time off. Employees also become eligible for retirement benefits after 5 years with the Diocese of Phoenix.
